The Core Schralpfest!

by ChristianCruz Staff

The months of planning and preparing paid off.  The Core Schralpfest Surf Contest, which took place on June 7, was a huge success thanks to the dedication of hundreds of volunteers, supporters, and competitors!

The Core is a non-profit organization by the kids and for the kids. Our end goal is to have a place for kids to hang out that embodies Santa Cruz to its very Core - a hub that will revolve around the active surf lifestyle style of the unique kids that comprise our east side community. Kids want and need a place to hang out with their friends, and there aren’t many positive things (besides surfing) for kids to do on the east side. The Core will provide a positive influence through mentorships, how-to classes (car repair, resume writing, finding your purpose, etc.), guest speakers (pro surfers, business owners, entrepreneurs, pillars in the community, etc.), apprenticeships, traveling, etc.

“Santa Cruz is a beautiful town, with beautiful people,” Kim said.  “I love ‘em all and I’m getting chills right now as I reminisce about all of the meaningful things that took place at the contest and as I look forward with anticipation to what the future holds.  We will succeed and kids will have a place to hang and grow up.  I can’t wait!”
