Free Movie Screening: What Would Jesus Buy?

by ChristianCruz Staff

What Would Jesus Buy?On Sunday, November 30, Christian Life Center will be hosting a free screening of the movie, What Would Jesus Buy? from producer Morgan Spurlock (of Supersize Me fame). The screening will take place at 5:00 p.m. at the Rio Theatre (1205 Soquel Avenue in Santa Cruz). The event is free — donations will be accepted for the Africa Oasis Project, an organization dedicated to responding “to the critical problem of inadequate and unsafe water creating high-risk in the lives of people throughout Africa.”

What Would Jesus Buy? follows Reverend Billy and the Church of Stop Shopping Gospel Choir as they go on a cross-country mission to saveChristmas from the Shopocalypse: the end of mankind from consumerism, over-consumption and the fires of eternal debt!

The event is Christian Life Center’s kick off to Advent Conspiracy. Worship/Connexions Pastor Bobby Marchessault says, “This Christmas we want to worship fully, spend less, give more, and love all. By spending less money, we will focus more on Christ. We will give relational gifts that matter and then redistribute the money we didn’t spend to build a home for the poor in Mexico and clean water in Africa. This movie will be a great way for us to start the Christmas season by thinking about how our spending and consumerism effects us and those around us at Christmas time.”

More information on the event is available at the church’s website or by phone at 831.426.7733.
