Aptos Christian Fellowship will host a book-signing for local author and retired Bethany professor, Dr. Truett Bobo, on February 19 after morning 10:00 a.m. worship. Dr. Bobo has recently published a book entitled Quest For Q: The Life You’ve Been Looking For.
Here is a description of the book from the back cover:
Many Christians experience life little different from that of unbelievers, and serve God out of fear, guilt, duty, or condemnation. Though committed to Christian ideals and active in local congregations, their day-to-day living is a joyless discipline or even a burden. As I approached retirement from an evangelical undergraduate college, I became increasingly interested in writing something that could provide direction for those who do not enjoy the richness of being God’s children. Months of reading, reflecting, writing, re-writing, and spending time in prayer, were the ingredients for identifying a model of life God desires for all his people. The fruit of this endeavor is a fifteen-chapter manuscript (43,000 words) that I have entitled, Quest for Q: The Life You’ve Been Looking For. The principles expressed in this work have significantly impacted my own relationship with God, and as I have shared them with dozens of friends they have expressed interest in learning more about this material.
The subject-line of the writing demonstrates that Christians must first have an understanding of the nature of God, and specifically we must establish his unconditional love for us as the cornerstone of all our beliefs and living. Secondly, we must understand ourselves as damaged creatures of God, dependent upon Christ’s redeeming work in order to experience the life we are looking for, rather than trusting our own striving to produce it. The central section of the manuscript identifies four key elements of God’s provision for this abundant life—loved, intrepidity, peace, and freedom—and explores a proper understanding and the effects of each of these. The closing three chapters demonstrate how surrender is the one thing God requires of us in order to realize growth in each of the four qualities treated earlier, and the delight of living produced by this surrender both here and in heaven, when the quest for quintessential living becomes reality.
The book can be purchased at Linda’s Bible Bookstore at 1658 D Soquel Drive in Santa Cruz.
