MBSF is a group dedicated to the college and career aged (primarily ages 18-24) and their walk with God. The group started as a small Bible study in a home, and it has grown to now be represented on eight Northern California college campuses. Groups meet for Bible Study / Life talks in San Jose on Tuesday nights, in Santa Cruz on Wednesdays, and in Tracy and Stockton on the first and third Thursday nights of each month. - St. Francis Soup Kitchen
St. Francis Catholic Kitchen was founded by Father Peter Carota. Peter Carota was a former real-estate salesman. In 1981, he sold his own home and used the money to start St. Francis Catholic Soup Kitchen. In the beginning, they fed the poor from the back of a van. In 1983, Peter and some of the other volunteers were able to purchase the current property at 205 Mora which is right behind the San Lorenzo Lumber on River Street. Peter also started a shelter at 132 Lennox Street - Jesus, Mary, Joseph Home. Peter has since become a priest, but his work at the Soup Kitchen and Jesus, Mary, Joseph Home is being carried on by a group of dedicated volunteers.

The St. Vincent DePaul Society serves the poor at the grass-roots level. They bring comfort the way Jesus did, person-to-person. Sometimes they just listen or offer a compassionate word. In emergencies they bring needed financial aid, food, and referrals, without judging. Vincentians believe each contact with the needy is an opportunity to meet Jesus. Or as Mother Teresa of Calcutta has called them, "Christ in a distressing disguise". Maintaining the client's dignity and confidentiality are critical factors of this ministry. Just as poverty and suffering do not discriminate against whom they visit, neither does the Vincentian discriminate against those who seek help.
